When choosing a vest, it is important to measure first. We recommend selecting a size with a vest circumference 2-4 inches smaller than the wearer’s body circumference, and the vests are adjustable at the sides & shoulders, so measurements don’t need to correspond exactly. If a looser fit is preferred, size up. It is also important to consider how much weight to insert into the vest pockets. Around 5-10% of the wearer’s body weight is a common standard; never exceed 15%. Each vest comes with 2lb of weight included, with additional Fun and Function Vest Weights available on Amazon if needed.

Our vests are also machine washable. Just make sure to remove the weights from the inner pockets before washing and adhere all closures. Then wash on a gentle cold cycle and hang to dry. It is recommended to consult with your child’s occupational therapist regarding how long the vest can be worn at one time. A general rule of thumb is approximately 20-30 minutes of every hour.

When putting on the vest, it is important to attach the hook-and-loop closures at both shoulders and place the vest over the child’s head. Then secure one side at a time, adjusting tightness as needed, and adjust the shoulder straps as needed.
